It all started in the summer of 1982 when a few of my friends in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida invited me to a movie; the movie was, "Fast Time at Ridgemont High". As a 14 year old, it struck me like a lighting bolt and thought it was absolutely fabulous. I loved the idea of being a surfer even though I had ever yet to step foot on to a surfboard.
A few weeks later we had a softball tournament in Cocoa Beach, and for some reason my coach had me on the bench on the first day of the tournament. On the second day, I decided to quit softball and waltzed right on over to Ron Jon's Surf Shop and rented a super heavy 10ft. Longboard. With no training or teaching, it took me about 10 hours before I caught my first wave. Immediately, The Surf Bug had bitten me and nothing else mattered. As it goes, for the next 26 years, surfing was on the top of my list.
In 2001, I moved to Ft. Pierce, Florida to be close to the best surfing beaches in Florida. Accordingly, I purchased a home on some the best fishing grounds as well. For the next 60 days I fished every single day learning the craft from the famous Snook Nook Bait & Tackle Shop. Looking back so many years later, I can proudly and truthfully say it was the best decision I ever made. So much so, that on the 4th of July in 2006 I invested a few thousand dollars to open San Juan del Sur Surf and Sport, in that freedom was the reason!
Being in Nicaragua and being able to meet and serve thousands of visitors has been a priceless and a privilege to me. I always remind our team that we are a major part of the experiences that visitors take back with them; and in part, they become our spokesman for Nicaragua.
We welcome you and we look forward to be of service!
